Vietnam, Saigon Food - Common Dishes and Sinh To (Part 4)

This post will look at a few common dishes South Vietnamese eat. It is cheap and available everywhere. The other favourite is their fruit smoothie/shake.

Goi Cuon Tom - Vietnamese Shrimps Spring Roll
Ingredients: Poached Shrimps, chives, lettuce, pork, vermicelli noodles, cucumber, basil and rice paper. Dips - Spicy Peanut sauce.
Canh Chua Ca - Sour Soup
Indigenous to the Mekong Delta.
Ingredients: Uses catfish, pineapple, bean sprout, tomato, lady fingers, scallions and tamarind flavoured soup. Dip the catfish fillet into the fish sauce before eating.
Stir-fried Beef and Spinach
Ingredients: Lean fillet steak, fish sauce, yellow onions and ground black pepper.
Heo Kho To - Pork Simmered in Caramelized Sauce in a Clay pot
Can substitute with fish and shrimps.
Ingredients: Caramel Sauce, lean pork, fish sauce and black pepper.
Grilled Pork Chops
Ingredients: Pork loin, caramelized sauce, lemongrass, ground pepper and fish sauce. The smell from the grill is a 'killer'.
Sinh To - Fruit Shake
I have a few glasses a day. RM1.50 each. It is RM2.00-3.00 at cafes. Obviously strawberry will costs more. Solid. Fruits all the way. There are so many varieties of fruit from Mekong Delta and Dalat Highlands (like Cameron Highlands) that one is spoil for choice.

Grilled pork has a different taste compared to the western ones as it has fish sauce and I believe caramelized sugar. Street food not as much as BKK but still alot. South Vietnamese are enterprising. Enforcement and corruption have force some of the road.
