Kheng Lim Salted Chicken Revisited - Taman Ipoh Jaya

My wife god-sister requested for Kheng Lim Salted Chicken and Chek Hup 2-in-1 White Coffee after getting wind that we will be heading up for Penang. Kheng Lim is situated in Ipoh Jaya and is different from the Aun Kheng Lim in downtown Ipoh which mostly serves the tourists. Word has it that both owners are relatives.

Each chicken is about 2 kg ex-farm and costs RM16.00. Read my earlier blog for further details.

If you are going in the afternoon or during holidays call first.
6 huge woks each has a capacity of 4-5 whole chickens. Rock salt filled the wok. The chicken, packed with Chinese herbs is wrapped in oil paper and totally immersed into the salt cauldron for baking.Salted chicken. In the foreground these chicken were done it, while those in the backgound are waiting their turn. The kitchen is stifling hot and muggy. Gives new dimension to the phrase, "If you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen!"This wok is ready for more chickens. The salted chicken ready for feasting. Strong herbal smell and taste with deliciously salty meat.
