Nasi Padang @ Restoran Sari Ratu - Dataran Glomac, Kelana Jaya, P.J.

We ended up here due to lack of lunch kakis. There were only 5 of us. Kelana Jayans have long enjoyed this 1 year old Padang restaurant. It came highly recommended. This I presumed was the 5th Sari Ratu in Malaysia. Another 14 is to be found mostly in Jakarta. I checked their site but surprisingly it was not updated though informative.

The food was surprising good and the staff helpful. Alfresco dining is available as well as a sectioned off area for private dining. Ambiance is nice with good furniture and table wares. It is a 2 lots restaurant with a combined frontage of about 50feet. A downside is the tables are tightly packed due to the huge lunch crowd. When we arrived at 1:30pm, we took the last table available. Food arrived quickly. It should as the food just needed reheating as Padang food is cooked before hand. Another negative was the portion was small and the price was on the high side. The upside was we could sensed that quality ingredients were used for the sambal merah (red) and hijau (green) dipping sauces to the free-range chicken and beef for rendang. Price: RM150 (all in ++).
Take your pick here.Singkong/Tapioca crackers. Sweet and savoury. For starters.Green Chili Sambal. Not too hot. Excellent for me. Red Chili Sambal. I can smell the freshness of the ingredients used.I reminiscence on the Pak Ali's great lemang and rendang daging near the National Zoo in times past. This is as good! Tender and the meat cooked to perfection. It just tears easily yielding the freshness and the aromatic spices and herbs to the diner. We ordered another plate.Ayam Kampung, free-range chicken with lots of serunding (meat floss) as toppings. Fried to chewy goodness. If you want a good but easy workout for the jaws order this. Taste was good.Cumi-cumi/Squids. Average compared to rendang daging.Gulai using Tenggiri (Spanish Mackerel). One of the freshest tenggiri I have consumed. Nowadays I hardly ordered tenggiri curry or deep-fried blocks in mamak joints, even if it is just deep-fried. Reasons: not fresh. The gulai was a bit light but good for health:)The usual jack fruit gulai. Nice and lightly fragrant. Not too heavy-handed on spices or lemak! We also ordered stir-fried Buncis/French Beans. Quite salty.Their dessert (to me it is not a drink) highlight was their avocado shake with melted infused chocolate for a nice blended mosaic look. Honestly, I missed this. Check out masak-masak post on another Sari Ratu in Desa Pandan, KL.

Food looks ok but the price seems a bit expensive! the negeri sembilan cooking at kelana jaya mall is nearly the same, small portion and pricey but a bit cheaper than sari ratu. I think masakan padang is a bit expensive in KL.

All this time, I heard that it's quite difficult to find avocado in Malaysia. That's so great that they provide it in this Padang restaurant.

RM150 for a nasi padang meal is a bit on the high side. The two chilli sauces are just jumping out of the screen though... could eat that plain with rice!

SG... Gorgeous and delicious yah!

BBO... Same in Singapore. 3 pax will eat SGD50-60.

LI... Somewhat similar to Nasi Kandar in some of the dishes though taste and smell may varies.

Selba... I think it is not the California or Australia edition as it cost about USD1.1 - 1.3 and very small compare with those in Indonesia.

Faith... Yes I think that 2 plates amy also be recession food!

CampC... Not all are good or according to our taste.

TNG... More of a dessert. I asked lots of sky juice.

BSG... Must try the gulai tendons next visit as it looks very good.
