Sop Buntut (Ox-tail Soup) - Surabaya, Indonesia

Thursday, 10th July.

Ox-tail soup is so common in Java, esp. in Surabaya. Once off the plane we went to the warong. Included in the usual fare: mie and rice dishes was the Sop Buntut.I managed to sample it twice in Surabaya. Both fell flat. It is salty. That's it. Other spices were not detectable or too subtle. I prefer some strong doses of herbs and spices ala the Malaysian style. I missed the Chinese celery that was sprinkled liberally on the soup.
However, the meat was super tender and juicy in the second shop. In the first the meat was over-cooked.
