Aik Kee Fried Porridge Restuarant, Serdang, Kedah

We have our own fried porridge in Klang. But I have never been there. The Word was, the proprietor of the Klang outlet is related to this in Serdang, Perak.

But a trip to the North gave us a chance to try out the original. Even though it's in Kedah, it's not far off the NSE for those heading towards Penang. If you want a break and have plenty of time, make the detour or better still go to Sepetang and Kuala Kurau like what we did.

To some community, having porridge means sickness or recovery from illness. Frying porridge is a definite no-no for the above categories, as frying alters the balance in the food. But frying certainly makes it taste better.

It was an excellent experience to have the fried porridge here. We ordered and ate and then ended up wanting more. The porridge we tried looked like Char Koay Teow. It was deep rich brown from the sauces and also the "wok hei" (breath from the wok).

The taste was rich and I guess they may have used a kind of milky rice. I was quite sure it was not cooked from ordinary rice. It was savoury and sweet, but not salty gave me the assurance that the porridge was boiled in rich stock culled from the bones of livestock.

Do try their Thai Mango Salad. It was good. The Steamed Red Snapper was so-so.

Conclusion: The fried porridge is a must have, esp the sweet and rich broth the porridge was cooked in. Only if the shop is closer to my home.
