Moon Kee Fish Head and Seafood Noodles满记, Section 19, PJ

It was a fine late morning to go for some soupy brunch. Heard alot of this joint and a firm favourite of PJ folks and crowded most of the time. Don't have to go to the fringes of KL or Chinese majority areas to get a good bowl. The location and shop is upmarket reflecting the surroundings.

The backbone of the shop as for their staple products are simple. Clear or milky soup base. This shop is pork free and the soup is made from fish bones. I heard the branch in Balakong has soup made from pork bones.

Then their fish offered are poached fresh grouper (normal, Loong Tan and Lo Fu Pan) or deep fried thread fin (Ma Yau). With that settled one can order other side dishes like fish maw, abalone and fish cake.

I ordered clear soup with deep fried Ma Yau. The broth was sweet and tasty. It was not heavy with salt and no msg detected. Just unadulterated soup base with a strong emphasis on fresh fish eaten with fresh tasting soup having the right equilibrium. Obviously time, effort and good ingredients were put into it. I drank it all.

The deep-fried Ma Yau was fresh and the meat was sweet. It just flaked off just as I expected it to be.

The milky soup came with Ham Choy (pickled vege), tomatoes to give it some tart and it was refreshing and appetising. If you like strong taste, it's an easy choice. Good combination with Mee Hoon. The grouper slices were fresh and sweet. You can expect the best and the freshest here.
