Penang Hawker Centre - Supertanker

Penang seems to be able to group the hawkers into facilities that help them make a living and also help the consumers to have easy access to cheap and hygienic food. These hawker centres are old model of the past. I used to eat at the market where people came to buy fresh perishables and dry foodstuff, ate and packed breakfast and other meals. Beyond these there were the household products for everyday use. It was like a one-stop centre.

Today, there seems to be few of these relics of the past in various cities and towns but the government doesn't seems to be interested in them anymore. People squeeze into carparks and then pay for branded products and eat gourmet food in modern and shining private enterprise's malls.

Supertanker is a great place to eat. It's been there when for a long time. The market is just across the road and I remembered it has some of the freshest fish around. The routine is to buy from the wet and dry market and then go to the hawker centre for breakfast. Off course now, it also served as a place to eat lunch, teas and dinner.

The Hokkien Mee, Char Koay Teow, Lobak and Prawn Fritters are reuted to be good. And the good ole Coffee 'O' Ice. Black, sweet and coffee smell is strong
