Cristang - 8 Avenue P.J.

I went for a quick working dinner with a couple in Cristang. We did not go for the regular and popular Pork Burgers, Bacon Rib Ambila, Devils on Horseback, Spicy Chicken Cristang, Pork Leg Debal Curry.... We betted on some dark horses and lost. Its partly due to taste, age bracket and also health issues. One of them had 2 coronary stents.

Arriving at 5:30pm it was closed (not opened yet for the dinner session) we went for a drink at the Nyonya joint diagonally opposite Cristang. I was surprised at the lack of crowd and plentiful parking at 8 Avenue a new happening place in New Town P.J. area.

I took the Fried Nasi Lemak. To the unaware be careful - this dish can deliver a pungent knock-out swirling plumes of choking chili fumes up one's nostril. It was on strong side and a little salty for me. The sausage and ham were very evident though from the run of the mill average stuff.

Lesson learned from this visit - play safe and order those highly recommended by those who had been there, which means pork burgers and the those listed in the my 1st para.

My friend went for Portugese Noodles. I was told it tasted like Hailam Noodles. Again average.
Pork Ribs in Honey Sauce. Had better in Tai Chow Restaurant. Too bad the cajun spices that promises potential under-delivered.Mixed Meat Porcupine? Chicken and prawn meat with julienned wanton skin. The novelty was the wanton skin that felt and tasted like yam. The meat was not top notch, an indication it was pushing the limits on the shelf life.

Ok... the food looks fine but can't they at least make some effort to improve on the presentation?

I've yet to try Cristang, but I guess I'll stick to the pork burgers and curries. Thanks for the heads up!
