Sunrise Roast Duck, Seapark and Brother Kunker Roast Duck, Puchong

The Tale of Two Ducks

My wife and I had a quick Saturday lunch and tea.

Lunch was at Sunrise Duck where they will sell out by 2 or 3 pm. The steady stream of customers and many of them families was built not on castles in the air but back-breaking work through the years.

The last I had it here was 4 years ago. A friend who knew the proprietor booked a dozen of the duck's drumstick and thigh. That was a memorable meal. Indeed the meat was tender and tasty. The meat spoke for itself — one of the best duck around.

Now, how about this time around? Maybe it was an off day. The skin was slightly off. The meat can be better. Only the texture remained grand. But then what is an off day compared to a generation of satisfied tummies. The crowd will still gather and there will be better days.

A friend highly recommended Brother Kunker Duck in Puchong. He was not even staying nearby. His home is in Jalan Ipoh.

The meat and texture were as good as it could be. I have my fair share of chewy and rotten temper meat. This one allowed the teeth to sink in and the chewing was not a chore. Each bite released the tasty goodness of a well marinated and quality duck. Do come and try at this place.

Their Char Siew was chopped up like pellets in an unorthodox way. The meat and fat gave fibres and juicy lard, a right combination when you have well-caramelised sauces accompanying.
