The food here can get close to the real deal. The portions were large and, they were generous with the meat toppings and the usual Vietnamese's sides of vegetables and herbs.
I have missed the Bun Bo Hue (Gio Heo - knuckles/trotters) for the longest time. Even in HCMC, one may not get the real McCoy as it is a Central region's dish. The soup base can be weak and usually not spicy enough.
The accompanying noodles (Bun) to this Central Vietnam dish is a bit like the Assam Laksa's noodles, although not precisely, as the Laksa noodles are kind of springy and translucent. It's as though tapioca was added. For Bun, the rice ingredient is very obvious by its appearance and texture.
The soup is from beef bones and lots of lemongrasses. It's on the sweet side with chili oil added to the soup. Yes, it's spicy. Does this dish measure up? Yes, if they can tone down the sweetness from the sugar it.
Noodle with Seafood and Roasted Pork was a delightful local dish tailored after the Vietnamese Beef Stew called Bo Kho. The colour was dark and murky as though there are some treasures hidden to be dug up. The soup was thick and likely from beef and pork bones. I enjoyed Vietnamese with a local twist.
Finally, their Goi Cuon (Spring rolls) was as authentic as it came. The skin was fantastically thin and it melted in my mouth. The prawns were large, fresh and generous. Taste the subtle freshness from the farm and sea. The peanut-based sauce, with very hot chili and laced with fish sauce, was a perfect match with the more bland roll. Can't stop eating them.
