Food in Langkap, Pun Chun and a Visit to the Orang Asli Village

A short-trip to visit an old friend in Langkap turned out to be an opportune time to have some nice food. Langkap is in the southern part of Perak is just a 2 hours car ride and can be accessed through the NSE. Exit at Bidor and taking the route towards Teluk Intan. About 20 minutes after the exit from the NSE (look out for signboard), take the right turn at the T-junction and head towards ChuiChak and Langkap. Langkap is about 15 minutes away.

It has many small-holders planting palm oil and rubber trees. ChuiChak is a huge paddy planting area. There were many Orang Asli villages around these areas.

Wild River Prawns. No antibiotics and steroids! Muscular, firm and fresh. Top of the line. Wok-fried. Dry-style with light sauces.
Teochew-style Patin - half-portion (stomach segment). Meat was springy as the fish was big. Enjoyed it if it sauce/soup was not MSG laced. Preferably on the next outing I will go for ginger and soy sauce style with lesser need to pep it up with MSG.Crispy Roast Chicken marinated in wine. Cooked just right with its tender meat infused with subtle smell and taste of Chinese wine.Claypot Labi-Labi (turtle). Enjoyed the gelatinous shell.Stir-fried Sweet Potatoes Leaves.
The meal for 6 pax - 5 dishes for RM109.Langkap Cathay Restaurant. Address: 38-40 Jalan Besar. Tel 05-6591255. They are a major caterer for special occasions (120 tables) even all the way up to Cameron Highlands. The Semai village.
Cockerel crowing its welcome at noon!OA settlement.Bidor here we come! At almost 5:00pm.
Great wantons with mix pork and prawn fillings.
Double-boiled Yook Chok Chicken. Plentiful with personal bowls per servings! Very good.Pun Chun - double shoplot with lots of tables to cater for B/F and lunch crowd.
And there offerings of various types of biscuits and pickles.
I like this old "Tiger" brand from Teluk Intan.Another Teluk Intan Heong Paeng.

The yook chook chicken looks like seriously tummy-warming grub! I need some of them now, given the sad state of national discourse this first of August....

Faith... Love it to bits. Agreed!

Selba... Its fragrance comes from the sesame seed oil I think. I am sure you have it in Glodok. "Heong Paeh" means "fragrant biscuit".

TNG... Need to get around. Sometimes feel trapped in KL.

SG... This is the one Pun Chun along the main street.

BBO... Yummy... I will have their duck noodles next.
