Guan Heong Biscuit Shop (Meat Floss Lotus Paste Salted Egg Biscuit) - Ipoh

There are keen competitions between the many confectioneries around Ipoh Town and the outskirts. Each toting their signature biscuits vying for the wallets of the many visitors to the food haven in Malaysia. Regular visitors to Ipoh will tell you their favourite biscuits and where to get them.

I dare not say that there are many different types of biscuits. Perhaps biscuits revolve around probably a score of basic types. Then the variations kick in giving rise to distinctiveness that will differentiate each confectioner.

Guan Heong claims that they are around since 1918 and they can deliver to Malaysia and Singapore. This may be the 2nd or 3rd time I was there.

Their signature and crowd pleaser was their meat floss lotus seed paste with salted egg yolk biscuits. Sounds a mouthful. I bought 15 pieces. You can checked out picture 3 and 4. What I had was slightly too dry. I wished it was more moist esp the lotus paste and the egg yolk.

I liked their sesame seed biscuit, Heong Pheah, cashew  and peanut candy, milky hazelnut and kuih bangkit alot. Special mention will be the Heong Pheah. The filling was sweet, rough and grainy, fragrant, soft and sticky, the way it should be. The sachima was a tad dry. I grew up with moist sachima.

When in Ipoh go and shop around and try the many shops. Most have samples where you can try before buying.
