Sop Buntut (Ox-tail Soup) - Surabaya, Indonesia

Ox-tail soup is so common in Java, esp. in Surabaya. Once off the plane we went to the warong. Included in the usual fare: mie and rice dishes was the Sop Buntut.
I managed to sample it twice in Surabaya. Both fell flat. It is salty. That's it. Other spices were not detectable or too subtle. I prefer some strong doses of herbs and spices ala the Malaysian style. I missed the Chinese celery that was sprinkled liberally on the soup.
However, the meat was super tender and juicy in the second shop. In the first the meat was over-cooked.
