Ana Ikan Bakar Petai, Kuantan

Twice, we have to turn away due to the crowd. A hundred plus of tables but not able to find even one. But that was over the weekend. We returned on Monday at 5pm and waited patiently for them to start at 530pm.

They have 2 famous dishes. Ikan Bakar and seafood deep-fried in batter. Of course, they have more on the menu. Try them. Fresh, fresh seafood will not go wrong with any style.

At 5pm the fresh seafood were loaded into trays for your choosing then weighing and ordering of the style of cooking.

The seafood were indeed as said by many. Fresh, clean and no smell. I preferred mine just plain as I wanted the taste of the sea. It should be on 2 counts. Freshness and taste. Superb freshness but it was a little short on sweetness from the flesh. The banana leaf did offer a bonus. The familiar earthy fragrant had gone in the fish and it was a familiar and welcome smell.

At a price of RM70 per kg its not cheap. In fact don't expect fresh bounties from the sea to come cheap.

The Sotong celup tepung was great. The smell from the lightly spice up flour heighten the taste and fragrance. The subtle sweetness of the squid was raised another notch.

If you had to have seafood go for Ana for its authentic Malay feel and taste. And don't forget the petai though it was not on my radar but please do try the seafood with these stinky beans that have made them so famous in Kuantan.
