Restoran Seafood SKH River View - Ampang
An unpretentious warm and welcoming restaurant at the Ampang New Village area. This has been a hotbed of good food since yesteryears. SKH is a go to restaurant in that locality. Good food, well presented and lovely ingredients and most Malaysians would love this: big portions with reasonable price
We had Claypot Kailan, Jiu Ribs, Yam Basket Mix Vegetables, Bochoy in Trio Eggs and Claypot Tofu with roast pork and vegetables.
The taste we clear and concise. They know what they want to present and the food unambiguous taste as it should. If the sharp notes were required it's there in the Jidu Ribs and Kailan claypot. The ribs were tender and cooked just right. They were meaty and obviously specially instructions given to the butcher. The sauces were strong but not overwhelming. Caramelisation with some savoury hints made this dish delectable.
The Kailan was savoury all the way. And I couldn't get enough of it. Nowadays so much sweet rush were applied to dishes that I hardly get to order savoury dishes. The Kailan was special as it was flowering and I went for it for that bite back and hint of bitter accents.
The yam basket was slightly off par as the yam in the basket was too smooth. I wished it was roughly. Also the taste of the yam could have been better. Its different however with the fillings. All clear given. Good umami yet not cluttered especially when they are a mix of ingredients.
Claypot Tofu and Roast Pork with vegetables was a winner. The heat was retained and the tofu was piping hot. The roast pork was really were marinated and roasted well. Went too good with the rest. Got some nice small onions thrown. Hardly see these tasty dainties used by chefs. Enhanced the dish as though its flavour was bouncing around the claypot.
Finally, the Bochoy (spinach) with egg, Salted eggs and Century eggs was with a bit flooded with gravy and light cornstarch mixture. Most Cantonese food has this starch to thicken up the the sauce. It's a double edge sword as the century and Salted eggs lost out as their flavour was diluted somewhat. The vegetables were great and it was soft and nice stems without the fibres with a little taste Bochoy's signature bitter aftertaste.
